What Are Kavalactones? Understanding Kava Gummy Strength

Kavalactones are a group of compounds found in kava. On a kava gummy, a kavalactone figure describes those compounds rather than the total weight of the extract ingredient or the whole gummy.
KP Berry Kava is designated 50mg kavalactones per gummy. Its laboratory report measures six compounds and lists a total of 50.5mg per gummy for sample 2502550-001.

These are the spellings and values used in the original Berry Kava report. Some publications use “kavain” where this report uses “kawain.” The full certificate remains the reference for the sample, method and reporting basis.
How the individual results become a total
Adding the six displayed component values gives 50.46mg. Rounded to one decimal place, that is 50.5mg, matching the reported total. This is a useful check on how the table is presented.
It is not a reason to replace the published laboratory total with extra decimal places. Component results and totals have their own reporting precision. The laboratory reports 50.5mg per gummy; the product line uses the round 50mg designation.
Kavalactone content is not extract weight
An extract ingredient may contain kavalactones along with other material. The weight of that extract does not, on its own, identify the weight of the kavalactones within it. Likewise, most of a finished gummy’s mass may be its base rather than the botanical compounds being measured.
A percentage can describe a proportion of a clearly identified material. A per-gummy result describes an amount in a finished piece. To convert between them, the relevant mass, basis and formulation must be known. There is no reason to estimate those inputs when the finished-product report already lists mg per gummy.
How laboratories distinguish the compounds
Analytical methods can separate and measure individual kavalactones rather than treating all extract material as one number. A published single-laboratory validation describes a liquid-chromatography method for six major kavalactones and three flavokavains. Read the analytical-method study.
The Berry certificate identifies its own method as HPLC-UV and lists the results it reports. A general analytical paper explains a measurement approach; it is not an independent test of this particular gummy. The product’s own report provides the sample-specific evidence.
What this report covers—and what remains separate
The Berry document reports kavalactones. It does not contain a contaminant panel. Its potency result therefore should not be described as proof of testing for heavy metals, microbes or residual solvents.

Use the number when comparing product details
Start with the botanical name, then read the compound and the basis of the amount. Next compare piece count, full ingredients, package instructions and the matching report. A larger pack changes the number of gummies you buy; it does not change the meaning of the per-gummy field.
